With the release of Haywire, Steven Soderbergh unveils Hollywood’s latest ass kicking woman. She’s just the latest in a long line of feminine heroes. She may be the latest but is she the toughest? Not by a long shot. These seven women are the best anti-heroes ever put to screen.

Hit Girl – Kick Ass

Proving big things come in small packages, 11 year-old Hit Girl takes bullets tot he chest, outsmarts a room full of thugs to save her dad and then takes out a room full of men armed with guns waiting for her. She kills more bad guys before breakfast than you do in all of your pathetic life.

Jane Smith – Mr. & Mrs. Smith

After working an assassination in Columbia, Jane opens her own network of female assassins, fends off her husbands attempts to kill her, stops three armored SUVs, breaks into a jail, and kills countless bad guys in a department store.

 

Alice – Resident Evil

Resurrected countless times, Alice is the ultimate killing machine. Through four films, Alice has thwarted the evil Umbrella Corporation, killed countless zombies, mutant creatures and machines. Alice is a lean mean killing machine and there are a lot of her so she can go forever, or as long as people keep attending the sequels.

 

Mulan – Mulan

Mulan disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army, creates an avalanche wiping her enemies off the face of the Earth, defeats the Hun leader and leads the way to women being respected and allowed to serve in the Chinese government. Did I mention she survived getting thrown off a cliff? Yeah, she’s that bad ass.

 

Coffy – Coffy

After her sister dies from a drug overdose, Coffy exacts revenge against the people that supplied the drugs. She starts her vision quest by offing the drug dealer and supplier. After a cop friend is severely beaten, Coffy loses it and starts a one woman killing spree that takes out a pimp, a mafia boss and a city councilman. Sexy, attitude and a killer afro, Coffy won’t stop till the streets drip blood.

Hanna – Hanna

She might be young but she’s trained for life. After being trained from birth, Hanna goes on the run from the CIA. Once captured, she kills a woman, escapes from the CIA, kills a German assassin and shoots a woman with a bow and arrow all at the age of 16. Her super sweet sixteen party was killing and field dressing a deer. She knows how to party.

River Tam – Serenity

A child prodigy with exceptional hand-to-hand combat skills, throughout the Firefly series, River took out several bad guys but it’s in the film Serenity that she shines. After taking out a bar full of people, she kills an unknown number of Reavers, a genetically enhances killing monsters. If your hopelessly outnumbered and out gunned, having River on your side will make it an unfair fight.

Ellen Ripley – Aliens

There can be only one and that one is Ellen Ripley. She battles the ultimate alien menace not once, not twice but four times. Out lasting a prison full of convicts, two spaceships full of crewmen, and a whole platoon of space marines, Ellen will take out any bitch that gets in her way. Even when dying, she takes out aliens to spite them and evil corporation that controls her life.
