Deadpool Spinoff gets Writers

It has been released that the Deadpool spinoff from the financial but not critical success X-Men Origins: Wolverine has finally found the people to put words to paper for the Merc with a Mouth.  The two writers intrusted with this task are Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick the twisted minds behind last years zombie comedy Zombieland.

I believe the script process is still very much in early development as Ryan Reynolds who played Deadpool in Wolverine (well at least for the OK version of the character) is already signed up to play yet another superhero as he dons a Power Ring and becomes Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern.

Green Lantern itself is still in pre-production and is set for a June 17th 2011 release.  Reading IMDb it also has Deadpool slated for a 2011 release but I really REALLY can’t see that happening, firstly because I think the Green Lantern shoot will be a long one and the fact that I’m sure FOX will want a summer release which means the turn around from now until then will be crazy.  All in all I think Deadpool will be looking for a 2012 release.

But now more on the writers, to be honest I’m OK with them.  Yes they are inexperiences and yes one of them wrote Cruel Intentions 3 but they showed a lot of promise with Zombieland, I for one thought the film was hilarious and it took me on a fun ride with some cool characters and I look forward to Zombieland 2.

But and this is a BIG but, I want to know if they will have the balls to do a proper Deadpool movie? What I mean by this is will they break the forth wall?  Will they make him into the EGO maniac that he is?  Reynolds has already stated publically that this is exactly the Deadpool he wants to see on screen but he also stated that he wants Quentin Tarantino to direct so I don’t think he’s going to get everything he wants.

Overall, I’m happy with the appointment of Reese and Wernick and I trust them not to turn him white, stitch up his mouth and give him blades that shoot out his arms.  But lets not get our hopes up, its a FOX film after all.
