Screwball comedies are the precursor to today’s romantic comedies. Emerging out of the Great Depression, they pitted the rich vs. the poor to great comedic effect. They are zany farces that run at a lightning pace.It Happened One Night, The Philadelphia Story and Bringing Up Baby are responsible for my love of classic cinema. I think if you are going to introduce people to classic films, it’s best to get them started with comedies as they are more universal.

This episode, I cover screwball comedies, how the Hays Code created the need for them and the films My Man Godfrey, Bringing Up Baby and The Lady Eve.
